In the simplest terms, a person uses drugs to feel different (and better) and abuses them because each time they need to experience that feeling with greater intensity. Of course, the deepest reasons why a person tries legal or illegal drugs and becomes addicted to them are as individual as each user. Typically, a mix of environmental factors, personality traits, internal biology, and external pressures encourage drug use. Understanding why people use drugs is the first step in avoiding addiction and dealing with it if it exists.

In 1815, a young German man became the first person to extract the essence of opium, and he named it morphium, after the Greek god of dreams, Morpheus. His name was Friedrich Sertürner and with his experiments he found the key to create all modern medicines. What was later called morphine became widely used, especially to eliminate pain, but also as a substitute for alcohol, until doctors realized that it was even more addictive than the substances it was supposed to replace. Opioids are great pain relievers, but they have significant side effects, from constipation and vomiting to addiction and, if they depress your breathing, death.

Ecstasy is a synthetic drug, or hard drug, which acts on the central nervous system, so it causes both stimulant effects, such as hallucinogens. 'Ecstasy' is the trade name of a substance called methylenedioxymethamphetamine or MDMA.

Psychoactive Substances are substances that affect the functioning of the central nervous system. They can be of natural or synthetic origin. They can affect orientation, awareness, thinking, perception, mood, and higher cognitive functions such as memory, thinking, motor activities, judgment, and calculation.

CHILDREN CHILDREN In toxic families it is tacitly or explicitly forbidden to speak of the compulsive behavior of one or both parents.
